  • Make a Plush Bear Kit

    Make a Plush Bear Kit

This Workshop is STUFFED with learning! Makers will research bear-themed literature for inspiration, and then imagine and write their own story. They will design this character to create a beloved plush teddy bear, the character of their story brought to life. Makers will learn all about the process of manufacturing. They will compare and contrast artisan manufacturing with industrial manufacturing, and get a taste of what a teddy bear factory is like! Makers will explore the history of manufacturing and how it has benefited society, and then they will manufacture their very own teddy bear! They will perform Quality Control by making sure their product meets all regulatory snuggle standards. By the end of this workshop, our young authors/budding entrepreneurs will be equipped to market their product, a lovable plush bear with an engaging backstory...but if they choose to keep it instead, we wouldn’t blame them! The teddy bears are pretty cute! Creators will Build a form with their pipes, using the included idea sheet as a guide. Finally, they will use their pipes to Engineer a fully functioning Air Propulsion Launcher! Afterwards, Creators explore the topic of physics, as they figure out how to make their marshmallows fly! They will learn all about Propulsion as they launch various projectiles to see what materials fly the farthest. This workshop is a fun exploration of Engineering! The materials are durable and can be used again and again for hours of creation. • Moss Wall Kit

    Moss Wall Kit

The Moss Wall workshop brings colorful elements and varied textures from the natural world into the hands of our Creators. Giving Makers the opportunity to hold, manipulate, arrange, and design elements to create something beautiful will develop in them an appreciation for nature. We want to encourage students to have a sensitivity to the natural elements, which are readily accessible around them and are excellent for fostering curiosity and wonder. Additionally, by interacting with nature, students can recognize the positive feelings they experience (biophilia effect). The Moss Wall display will be an excellent reminder of nature’s beauty and the role students can play in bringing this beauty to the forefront for others to appreciate. In this workshop, children will learn about the oldest plant on the earth, moss! Creators will discuss living and preserved moss and learn about plantscaping. They will sketch and design their moss wall and discuss the biophilia effect. Makers are encouraged to include additional preserved nature elements in their design, and forage for local elements if possible!  This student kit will give children hands-on experience working with preserved moss and colorful dried flowers with different textures, colors, and shapes.  Included in kit: Curriculum Booklet 8x8 Wood Canvas Frame 4 oz. Bottle of Glue Green Moss Assortment of Colored Moss 1 Package of Assorted Preserved Flowers Subject: ART AND BIOLOGYAges: 3-10

Once they have mastered the pulp process, they will also incorporate seeds into the pulp and mold their pulp into shapes that will become seed pods that can be planted or gifted.  These workshops will give Makers hands-on experience in understanding the various forms that paper can take. They will participate in a practical recycling project that demonstrates how used material can be reused in different ways. The kit provides enough supplies to create endless amounts of paper seed pods - just supply the paper! They will explore how simple machines like the wheel and axle in the gear mechanism illustrate leverage. Creators will see how the difference in size changes the way the gear train works, either generating more force, or more speed. They will apply math concepts to what they have observed with ratios. And finally, Creators will examine how these concepts apply to real life, as they identify gears and simple or complex machines in their environments.   Included Materials:  Wooden Gear Board Gears (3 Medium, 2 Small, 2 Large)  2 Bolts  2 Nuts 7 Plastic Pegs Glue Dots Standing Figure Template 3 Paint Markers Curriculum Booklet Each kit is designed for one student to use for 2, one-hour classes.
